GMA Aims to Beef Up Private-Sector Food Safety Efforts

Supermarket News – New York City, NY, USA

GMA’s supply chain initiatives were announced days after President Obama proposed to increase the FDA’s 2010 budget by 19%. Half of the increase would go to food safety efforts, according to published reports.

“There is a rare and historic opportunity to enact significant food safety reforms through the combined efforts of Congress, the administration and the industry over the next few months,” Bailey said.

The Clandestine War Over the Food Safety Modernization Act

The Clandestine War Over the Food Safety Modernization Act

Is the day coming when even your home garden will be against the law?

Brian Doherty | April 20, 2009

Critics say that the proposed Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 (H.R. 875), introduced in early February by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), will “effectively criminalize organic gardening,” conceivably outlaw “seed banking,” and will serve as part of a concerted Monsanto conspiracy to drive all but corporate agri-business out of the food production racket.

According to the office of Rep. DeLauro, the bill was inspired by a recent wave of contaminated food recalls and is supported by consumer groups both organic and non-organic. The bill should also, if it has the effect of increasing consumer confidence in the food supply promised, be of ultimate benefit to big food production companies whose livelihoods depend on public trust in the food supply.* (Which means that they have every incentive to police themselves, and in the enormous staggering majority of the time they manage to do business without killing or harming their customers.)

Food safety bill won’t protect us

Food safety bill won’t protect us
BlueRidgeNow.com – April 12, 2009

HR 875 is nothing but a Trojan horse, with an invading army to be designated later, in the form of a bureaucratic administrator (most likely a corporate lobbyist shill) with the law-making power to make up their own definitions so that all competitors are either driven into bankruptcy or locked up. There are problems with food safety we can talk about, but HR 875 is not going to make us safer, any more than invading Iraq made us safer. It must be stopped

Codex and corporate lobbyists lunch with our elected officials

Codex and corporate lobbyists lunch with our elected officials
OpEdNews – April 7, 2009

The most immediate threat to US farmers and ranchers, to organic growers and producers is the global committee known as [Codex Alimentarius] which has been in existence for decades. Codex is comprised of ever expanding committees which culminate in the issuance of the Global Strategy. The intent of the Global Strategy is to seize control of all food production from any source, by any means, centralizing food production in the hands of the governments of nation states and controlled by multi-national corporations who fund these assaults on humanity for profit. The Death of Agricultural Biodiversity in America

The Death of Agricultural Biodiversity in America
Center for Research on Globalization
Montreal, Quebec, Canada – April 5, 2009

HR 875 Is Not About Food safety, It’s About Genocide of Agricultural Biodiversity. One of the most potentially dangerous bills we’ve ever heard of is trying to sneak its way through Congress right now, in the sheep’s clothing of so-called modernization” of food safety. HR 875 (text of bill) is a bill put up by Monsanto and other monolithic corporations trying to seize totalitarian control over all agriculture. It was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, whose husband WORKS for Monsanto, and is ultimately about one thing, defining ONLY their own GMO products as “safe”. What makes the bill so dangerous is that it is heavy on penalties including prison time, while at the same time being incredibly vague about what would actually trigger those sanctions. HR 875 is nothing but a Trojan horse, with an invading army to be designated later, in the form of an bureaucratic administrator (most likely a corporate lobbyist shill) with draconian LAW MAKING POWER to make up their own definitions so that all competitors are either driven into bankruptcy or locked up. There are problems with food safety we can talk about, but HR 875 is not going to make us safer, any more than invading Iraq made us safer. It MUST be stopped.

The big phama plague: Malicious acts and propaganda

The big phama plague: Malicious acts and propaganda
Examiner.com – March 31, 2009

Big Pharma industry giants scramble to answer these questions and implement new methods of controlling how people choose to keep healthy by supporting government control of the dietary-supplement industry. The impact would be having full control over any high-potency, beneficial supplements that are currently available over the counter, raising the prices and restricting their availability. The Codex Alimentarius is hidden by the health industry as a means to consumer protection while in reality it is a real threat to health freedom and is fully supportive of dangerous genetically altered foods. $758 million being spent on Congressional lobbying by Big Pharma in 2007 makes it difficult to have it any other way. The plan is to eradicate organic standards by implementing bills that will ultimately lead to full control over food growers and eventually medicine if more awareness and non-compliance to Codex is not achieved.

GMO regulations

GMO regulations
KBS Radio – March 29, 2009

French scientists who have been studying the effects of “Round up ” a chemical component used to keep weeds away from genetically modified foods, found that when the components were used in mixtures they became deadly. This is one of many reasons why The New Democrat’s are pressing the Harper Government to reassess regulations surrounding genetically modified foods says Local MP Alex Atamanenko. Atamanenko is against any increase in GMO crops, saying that there is no proven research stating that GMO’s are a healthy alternative adding that countries such as France and Hungry have banned GMO products that are still growing in Canada.

43 Million Urban Gardeners & Michelle Obama Score Huge Victory Over Monsanto
OpEdNews – March 27, 2009

Putting aside the public relations nightmare of arresting Michelle Obama, the inconvenient truth is there are not enough jails, prisons and detention centers to hold 43 million Americans guilty of the myth that H.R. 875 “makes it illegal to grow your own garden” and would result in the “criminalization of the backyard gardener.”

Criminlize Organic Food? Fodder!!!

Criminlize Organic Food? Fodder!!!
myFOX News Austin, TX – March 25, 2009

Monsanto is currently buying up seed company’s throughout the mid-west of the United States and other countries as well following an Orwellian philosophy to control the masses by making it a crime to plant seed, cultivate, and harvest your own food. Currently these bills are in commitee but are forecasted to pass, if not, they will be attached to a rider and passed anyway. Violating every American citizens Constitutional and Natural right to Life, Liberty, and Estate. Yet, the People seem trustworthy of their representatives to thwart the passing of such absurd legislation, well with as much corruption as Capitol Hill is known for, I would not bet my money on my representatives being concerned about what’s on my plate at supper time. Money talks, and the American People are already on the skids as crooked and treasonist politicians make power grabs for the corporations that backed their campaigns, and what we are witnessing with the passing of these bills is the ultimate grab for power, for he who controls the worlds food supply… Controls the world. A statement Monsanto knows all to well.
